A little of this & that!

So, this post will have a little bit of everything. I gotta be honest it’s getting a little be harder to juggle school and the blog.

Halloween in Aberdeen

Aberdeen enjoys Halloween! This is the first time I got to enjoy Halloween other than handing out candy. Girls Who Walk Aberdeen organised a pub crawl on Halloween. We started at Slaine’s Castle followed by Revolution, Siberia and Ivy Lodge – this is where the night ended for me although it was still pretty late when I left to head home. Some people dressed up and others didn’t. I was Halloweenish if that is a thing. Someone dressed as Alan from the Hangover and had a baby doll that stayed out later than me. One thing I want to share is that Slaine’s Castle and the Priory used to be churches that have been turned into bars and event space. There are a couple of former churches that have been converted to bars. They also keep the character of the space both inside and outside.

I also attended an event earlier in the week at the Priory where they had an oddity craft fair. Daphne & Ann – I picked up gifts for you and can’t wait to give them to you. Following the oddity market a couple of us got coffee. I’ve met quite a few Americans with some being students and others working here. I’ve met people from Wales, Thailand, Ireland, England, Cypress, and of course Scotland.

Bonfire Night

Bonfire Night also known as Guy Fawkes Night. It takes place every year on November 5th with a huge fireworks display at Aberdeen Beach. Although, people also were setting off their own fireworks throughout the city.

So, what is Bonfire Night? It goes back to the 1600’s when Guy Fawkes tried to blow up Parliament in London on November 5th. Of course his plan was foiled and he ended up being executed. This led to Londoners celebrating every year on November 5th the foiled Gunpowder Plot, which is what it used to be called. Celebrations included bonfires and burning effigies of Guy Fawkes. The tradition has now moved on to more of family friendly events. It should be noted that Guy Fawkes isn’t Scottish.

More to come now that I wrapped up my first term at uni.
